Riku meets bunny

This is one of my favourite sets of photos of Riku- I took them when he was a week old. We put a little bunny which was a present from his Neenee (my mum) next to him in his bouncer and he was very interested- he even managed to work himself onto his side so he could get a better view and then "talked" to it. At that stage he was still mostly just eating, sleeping and crying so it was fun to see him reacting to a toy :)

In other news Riku got his first vaccines today, for Haemophilus influenzae bacillus and Streptococcus pneumoniae- I hadn't heard of either of those vaccines before but it seems like they are the main causes of bacterial meningitis in babies which can be very severe apparently. The second one also causes ear infections which I suffered a lot from as a kid so it will be great if it stops Riku from getting earaches like I did.

Poor Riku cried when he got the first jab and was absolutely outraged by the second, but calmed down after a few minutes and seems to be his normal self now. He needs 3 more injections of each to complete the course apparently, along with the other vaccines which are coming up- TB, polio, and also the diphtheria, whooping cough and tetanus vaccines which are given at the same time. Poor little boy will be a pin cushion, but he will also be safe from nasty diseases and that's the main thing.
